We’re excited to announce the rollout of Discord authentication and account linking on MistXI.
This update is an important step forward for the health of the server and the long-term experience of our community.
Why Discord authentication?
Over time, we’ve seen an increase in automated account creation and bot-driven activity. While most players never see this directly, it creates real problems behind the scenes — cluttered databases, abandoned characters, and additional moderation overhead.
By requiring Discord verification for new account creation, we gain:
- Strong protection against automated registrations
- A cleaner, healthier account ecosystem
- Better long-term tools for moderation and support
Discord gives us a reliable, widely-used identity layer without changing how you log into the game itself.
What’s changing (and what isn’t)
✅ What’s new
- New accounts must be created via Discord authentication
- Existing players can link their current account to Discord
- Account creation now happens through the website instead of in-game
❌ What’s not changing
- Your game login process is exactly the same
- Existing accounts continue to work normally
- Discord is not required to log into the game
- No Discord overlay, launcher, or in-game dependency is being added
This update affects account management, not gameplay.
Linking an existing account
If you already have a MistXI account, you can optionally link it to Discord:
- Visit the Link Account page on the website
- Authenticate with Discord
- Enter your existing account login and password
That’s it — your account remains unchanged, just securely associated with your Discord identity.
Linking is optional for existing accounts, but recommended.
Privacy & security
We take privacy seriously.
- Discord IDs are stored only for account verification and moderation
- We do not post on your behalf or access your Discord messages
- Passwords continue to use secure hashing and are never shared with Discord
- Each Discord account can be linked to only one game account
This system was designed with least privilege and minimal data retention in mind.
What’s next?
Discord authentication opens the door for future improvements, including:
- Better account recovery options
- Optional Discord-based notifications
- Cleaner moderation tooling
- Potential cosmetic or community-based perks (opt-in only)
None of these will impact gameplay balance or require Discord participation to enjoy the server.
